about

I wanted a reversal of the usual bad boy/sweet girl story. In the end his "angel" is killed in some sort of terrible unnamed situation in which our story teller is asking either the actual murderer or his "God" to make him die so he can join her in the afterlife. I also wanted to play around with the idea of "God" being merely our ideal of beauty or love and nothing else.

lyrics

Angel

Verse I:
I saw god in the face of my angel/I saw god in the warmth of her gaze/ I saw god when she looked back up at me/and I saw god when she showed me the way/I saw god when she showed me the way

Chorus:
I found strength in the way she would hold me and I found strength in her troubling ways. I found strength in the way she needed me and I lost hope on that last awful day

Verse II: I heard god in the voice of my angel/ I heard god in the depth of her sigh/ I heard god when she told me she loved me/ I heard god when she told me why/. I heard god when she told me why

Chorus:
I found strength in the way she would hold me and I found strength in her troubling ways. I found strength in the way she needed me and I lost hope on that last awful day

Verse III: I thought of god when I thought of my angel/ I thought god please let her rest in peace/ I thought god I just can't wait to join her/ I thought god point that big gun at me/ I thought god point your big gun at me

Chorus:
I found strength in the way she would hold me and I found strength in her troubling ways. I found strength in the way she needed me and I lost hope on that last awful day. I lost hope on that last awful day
