My Daddy introduced me to country music in his wood shop where I'd hang out while he made furniture and listened to local country radio. Everything came to a stop and he'd always sing along when a good sad drinking song came on. I've always chased that bluesy, drunken demon as a song writer. Here I'm trying to pay tribute not only to the great old school drinking song but to great old school punk songs as well. This is a song about a loser who never cared about anything except booze. This guy exists, no one loves him and he will die alone. I hope it's seen as cautionary and brings to mind old school country, a punk lyric edge and the Blues.
lyrics
ROAD TO RUIN
Daddy always told me, I would never win.
My mama she always looked the other way. Every girl that held me,
almost did me in.
And that's enough to make me want to drink.
But I never wasted booze,
I never spilled a single drop.
Everything I've ever known, everything I haven't got. Born on a road to ruin,
I was born to lose.
Might be just wasted space, man-- but I never wasted booze.
Everything I ever loved ended up with someone else.
If that ain't enough to make you drink, man-- Then we'll drink to something else.
Wasted all my money, wasted all my youth.
Of all the things I wasted man, you know I never wasted booze.
But I never wasted booze,
I never spilled a single drop.
Everything I've ever known, everything I haven't got. Born on a road to ruin,
I was born to lose.
Might be just wasted space, man-- but I never wasted booze.
Dirty looks and a half dead smile are all I have to show for a life spent completely wasted…
with no familiar place to go.
Wasted all my talents, though I had none to lose… Of all the things I wasted, man--
you know I never wasted the booze.

Might be just wasted space, man-- but I never wasted booze.
Might be a waste of air, man, but I never wasted booze.
Aahh don't make me come over there, man--
I ain't got nothin’ to lose…
I never wasted booze.
