When I first moved to Chicago, my first real city, I was intrigued by all the street life and activity on Michigan Ave (Mag-mile) and I worked at nights so I spent my days walking around, smoking and talking to anyone interesting. This song is about the early days on the Mag Mile and the hypocrisies the name vs reality often implies.
lyrics
MAG
Have another drink on me smoke another one of my cigarettes. Then we'll head Downtown you know the city ain't got a hold of me, yet. There's a nickel in the gutter, there's a strangers friendly smile. Sat in one bus then another as we headed on down the magnificent mile.
Chorus: walking round the windy city on another lonely day. Streetwise mans got all my penny's, just another lonely day. Walking man just keeps on walking on another lonely day. Beggars begging while the Garretts poppin', just another lonely day.
Have another drink on me smoke another one of my cigarettes. I bought a paper for the classified ads I ain't found nothing that I want to do, yet. Found a nickel in the gutter, I found a strangers friendly smile. Sat in one bar, then another as we drank our way down the magnificent mile.
Chorus: walking round the windy city on another lonely day. Streetwise mans got all my penny's, just another lonely day. Walking man just keeps on walking on another lonely day. Beggars begging while the Garretts poppin', just another lonely day.
Have another drink on me, smoke another one of my cigarettes. All the tourists look suspicious to me I ain't gotten used to the city yet. There's an old man in the gutter, he hasn't eaten for awhile. He bums a smoke and then he bums a dollar, then he heads on down the magnicent mile.
Chorus: walking round the windy city on another lonely day. Streetwise mans got all my penny's, just another lonely day. Walking man just keeps on walking on another lonely day. Beggars begging while the Garretts poppin', just another lonely day.
